The Story Behind the Tree:

About 8 years ago, sixth grade took a field trip to Shaw Nature Reserve. There, the students wore harnesses and climbed trees. They actually ate lunch and observed birds in the trees. At the end of the trip, they were given this Bur Oak tree and planted it in front of Gerdine house at Forsyth. When they got it, it was just a seedling. Now, it is over 10 feet tall.
